US Department of Health and Human Services provides grant to NELCDC for community economic development project
The NELCDC held a press conference at 10:30am on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at Patterson Library to announce a $300,000.00 grant award from the US Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Community Services for the Parkway Place retail shopping center capital project planned by the NELCDC.
According to Irasema Velasquez, Chairperson for the NELCDC, "We are very excited about the Department (HHS) affording us this opportunity to expedite economic development in our community. These resources will allow the NELCDC to leverage anticipated private resources and help to create an estimated 35 jobs once Parkway Place is fully leased and operational."
The NELCDC was formed in 2004 to create, facilitate, and promote development in north and east Lubbock . Since its inception, the NELCDC has had a housing development impact of nearly $2 million to date. Parkway Place is the organization's first economic development project estimated to be a 20,000 square foot shopping center to meet the consumer needs of the north and east Lubbock communities.
